Hi, I’m Jamie – founder of My Movement Medicine.

I’ve spent over a decade helping people move again after heart problems, surgeries, and long-term conditions. My job is to help people rebuild their confidence with exercise – safely, gradually, and with the right support.
I started My Movement Medicine in 2023 because I wanted to offer something a little different: friendly, community-based cardiac rehab that doesn’t stop after hospital treatment ends. It's grown into a supportive space for people looking to stay active and take control of their health – whether they’ve just finished rehab or want a place they can trust long term.
My Background
I have a degree in Clinical Exercise Science, plus specialist training in cardiac rehab, stroke recovery, diabetes, heart failure, and pulmonary rehabilitation. I’m fully accredited and registered with the AHCS, BACPR and CIMSPA and hold advanced Level 4 qualifications in GP referral, exercise referral, cardiac rehab, obesity, diabetes, stroke, and falls prevention.
For the past 10 years, I’ve worked in the NHS. I spent 6 years at Bournemouth Hospital, 2 years at the Royal Free in Hampstead, and now I work full-time at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington. I also worked with the Bournemouth Heart Club – a cardiac rehab phase 4 charity – for 5 years.
At St Mary’s, I lead exercise assessments and run 8-week cardiac rehab programmes. These include group classes, goal setting, personalised plans, and support to build strength and confidence over time. I also carry out end-of-programme reviews to help people move forward independently.
Why I Do This
My interest in health started young, but it became personal when I lost my grandad to a heart attack at 16. That moment stayed with me as I wondered if there was anything I could have done to help him. This shaped what I wanted to do with my life - I wanted to help people like him to build their health and prevent illness & conditions.
Over time, I’ve built a teaching style that’s supportive, flexible, and calm. I keep things structured and safe, but also enjoyable. I’ve always believed that exercise should feel good – even when it’s challenging.
Our sessions mix strength, cardio, balance work, and mindfulness, often drawing from different approaches like tai chi, yoga, all placed into one, all round class. All of it is backed by national cardiac rehab guidelines – and some of the best, tried & tested playlists in London to keep everyone moving.
What You Can Expect
Whether you join in person or online, I’ll always make sure you feel welcomed and supported. I’ll check in on your progress, offer exercise tips, adapt movements when needed, and make sure you feel part of the group – even from home.
Each week, I start by reviewing everyone’s RPE (rate of perceived exertion) score, guide the group through a warm-up, then a set of 20 varied movement stations, followed by a cooldown. I also keep an eye on form and make time for new starters to settle in comfortably.
On Mondays, I go straight from clinic to our Hampstead gym, set up the laptop, weights, and steps, and then we begin. It’s a bit of a mad dash, but it’s always worth it.
Looking Ahead
So far, over 60 people have joined the programme, and we’ve been fully booked every week for over six months. My goal now is to grow My Movement Medicine into a full-time service. That means more weekly classes, one-to-one support, regular health walks, and stronger links with GPs and hospitals.
If you’re thinking about joining or just want to know more, I’d love to hear from you. There’s always a space for someone new, and I’ll make sure you feel looked after.
Let’s get you moving!
— Jamie
